According to health officials, another outbreak of Hendra Virus has been found in the northern New South Wales and has killed at least one horse so far.
A number of people who were involved in the treatment of the horse are also believed to have been exposed to the virus and are now being observed and tested for the Hendras Virus.
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has confirmed that the horse was infected with the deadly disease and died on Sunday near Macksville, on the mid-north coast south of Coffs Harbour. The department is testing the people for signs of the deadly virus, as this virus can be transmitted to humans through horses.
It was reported that this was the second horse on record to die from the virus, and this is the third reported outbreak of the deadly virus.
"Fortunately it seems not all those people had any direct contact with the horse and at the moment we are evaluating those risks that people might have had further [contact]. But the preliminary information we have following interviews is that it seems that none of those people had particularly high risk of exposure to the horse", says Dr. Jeremy McAnulty.
The DPI is trying to link all the deaths of the horses and find where the outbreak originated.
