Regulations for Tobacco Advertisements to Be Made Stronger

Tobacco-AdvertisementsAccording to a recent development, it was implied that there would be a ban on the advertisements of tobacco products. The internet media seems to be taken aback by this new development, as they are of the view that they already regulated the measures for the effective control of these advertisements.

Nicola Roxon, the Health Minister brought about the Tobacco Advertisement Prohibition Amendment Bill. He further added that there would be a vote on the same matter soon.

“While the internet is being used extensively to sell cigarettes, its largely unregulated status holds much potential as a vehicle for both promoting smoking and advertising tobacco products”, Labor MP Craig Thomson said. He also said that there was a lot of promotion done for cigarettes and this is what gave a very negative impact on the people of the vicinity.

Tobacco products have long been cribbed upon by the authorities and it is essential to maintain a check on the circulation as well as advertisements of the same.

“I think this has been a great example of how self-regulation works, with agencies, advertisers and a publisher having a natural understanding of not promoting what goes against community values”, he added further.
