Promoting Men’s Health Week in Hills

prostate cancerIn Australia, prostate cancer is considered as one of the most common cancer because it has been diagnosed as the second greatest cause of cancer deaths in men. Therefore, in order to promote Men’s Health Week, Colin Bartlett who is facilitating for Westmead Hospital Cancer Support, is about to meet Hills men tomorrow (June 28) at 7 p. m. at Castle Hill Library.

Till now, lot many initiatives have been put forward by Hills Shire Council to promote Men’s Health Week and this free talk also would be a part of them.

Eight years ago, Mr. Bartlett, 75, who is a former environmental strategist, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and it was his own experience that led him to give talks about the disease. He said, “I am a businessman, a speaker and motivator and this seemed a very good opportunity to do just that. I’m hoping to inform men of what they can do, how simple it is to have something done and to make them aware of the simple procedures that are available”.

Test for this type of a cancer is as simple as a blood test and therefore men should timely get this done to look after their health.

Basically, if there is a cancerous growth in one’s body, then the prostate specific antigen (PSA) is produced by the prostate gland and thus it easily gets picked up in the blood.
