Hammock Effect Improves the Quality of Sleep: Study

Hammock Effect Improves the Quality of Sleep: StudyA recent research carried out by the researchers from the University of Geneva has claimed that hammock effect improves sleep quality and also helps people in going to sleep faster. Researchers have found that the effect also encouraged ruptures of brainwave activity called sleep spindles. The results of the study were recently published in the Current Biology journal.

Dr Michael Mühlethaler, another Co-Author, said, “We observed a faster transition to sleep in each and every subject in the swinging condition, a result that supports the intuitive notion of facilitation of sleep associated with this procedure”.

The researchers evaluated 12 male volunteers who do not take regular naps but tried to take regular afternoon snooze on both a stationary bed and a rocking bed. During the study period machines scanned their brains, eye and muscle movements.

The results of the study revealed that 10 men involved in the study fell asleep faster in the rocking bed as compared to the still bed.

The researchers revealed that the study did not involve women because their menstrual cycles can have an effect on electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring.
