The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has warned that the 5,000 tones of tyre waste may burn for few more weeks. The tyre waste is constantly burning from past five days, releasing clouds of smoke into the air.
The Station Manager, Crowley, said that a large amount of material is on fire that it will take several weeks to remove and completely extinguish it. It was a huge incident but there was no reported case of death or injury. Crowley explained that everybody is safe as a result of professionalism and effective planning by all the agencies involved in the case. A joint investigation by the police and fire service has been launched into the matter.
The authorities have advised the people living in the surrounding communities to keep doors and windows closed. Residents and visitors of the area are being told by health experts to reduce their exposure to the smoke.
Mike Crowley, from Mid and West Fire and Rescue Service, said, "We have made very good progress since Thursday, the fire is under control and there is no risk of the fire spreading”.
