A recent study has claimed that parents with a regular habit to consume alcohol are more likely to have children with a lust for alcohol. Further, it suggested that drinking habit in family and watching parents drunk has raised the risk of children experiencing alcohol by younger ages, may be at 13.
The findings were concluded from a major survey have exposed the drinking epidemic in country. The survey was commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and covered around 5,700 schoolchildren and found that one out of four 13 to 14-years-old have consumed alcohol, more than once.
Further, one quarter of students aged 15 and 16 who consumed six or more drinks the last time they used alcohol exceeded government safe drinking limits for adults. Alcopops credited to be a popular drink among the teens.
While responding a question to the Daily Mail, Claire Turner from the foundation said that the research shows parental influence on the children behavior.
"This research shows that parents can have more influence on their teenagers behavior than perhaps many assumed", added Claire Turner, from the foundation. "Both what parents say and how they behave have a strong impact on their teenagers drinking, drinking regularly, and drinking to excess".
