In a new step taken in the fight against cancer, it has been revealed that the retailers in Queensland would no longer be allowed to display tobacco products openly.
The new laws would go in effect from today and this shall mark the beginning of the ban of any sort of advertisement for smoking related products.
This is a step taken in regard of preventing the teenage-use of tobacco products. The youth is getting highly influenced by tobacco advertisements; it is almost like a driving force for them to go and grab a cigarette because the packaging is attractive. This needs to be changed and this is the reason for the implication of the ban.
The display of these products sends out a message to the teens that it is ‘O. K’ to smoke and this is the reason; it has become such a part of the normal life for them. The exposure to the children regarding smoke and related products will definitely decline and this would be a really positive step for a smoke-free society.
"Our government is determined to prevent our next generation of Queenslanders (from being) among this toll of the dead and the ill from smoking”, says Premier Anna Bligh.
