Drug companies like GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca claimed that they would not be funding the research work anymore on the new antidepressant drugs.

The CEO of GSK claimed that there were some controversies regarding such pills and there were some suicidal thoughts as well among people as these drugs can be fatal if consumed a lot. So GSK claimed that they have stopped funding this research as this would have created huge controversies in the market.

He also claimed that these drugs were the most expensive drugs ever dealt with and these would have failed in the end stage of the trial and thus the entire research process would be a waste and thus the company decided not to invest anymore on this research work.

"What we have forgotten, and must not forget, is if we stop this research we will have a dead space of 20 to 30 years before we can re-tool again", said Neuroscientists including David Nutt, professor of neuro-psychopharmacology at Imperial College London.
