According to a recent conducted study, there exist almost one million people in the UK who by hiding their diabetes actually risk their health.
During the diabetes week, a poll was carried out, during which it has been found that 34% of the diabetic people had either not disclosed their condition or they had kept it a secret in their past. Around half of such people admitted that they did so to manage their diabetes in a better way.
For conducting this survey for the charity, Diabetes UK, around 3,764 diabetic patients were polled and out of them, one-third kept their diabetes as secret. 59% hide it from their employer or work colleagues, 56% from their friends and 20% had not told their family about it.
Many people said that if they would have disclosed their diabetes secret, then both their physical and emotional health would have been affected.
In this regard, Barbara Young, Chief Executive at Diabetes UK, says in a statement: "There are 2.8 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK who need friends, family, employers and the public to understand how common diabetes is becoming and how serious it can be if people aren’t supported to manage their condition".
