First Live Liver Transplant in Australia Succeeded

Liver-TransplantA nine-month-old baby boy was admitted at Auckland City Hospital on Wednesday. He was suffering from a rare genetic disorder by birth, propionic academia, during which the body is not able to break down certain amino acids.

Day by day, his condition was worsening, and therefore Louie father Deon Charles decided to donate a part of his liver to him. For the first time, a live liver transplant held in New Zealand or Australia had succeeded.

However, as told by Louie's uncle Ryan Charles, once again Louie was admitted to the intensive care unit last night. He had a chest infection and his stomach also got swollen. So the doctors decided to conduct another surgery, so that they could relieve pressure from his stomach.

According to the surgeons, this is something not connected with the liver, because liver is doing fine. It is sort of a common complication.

In this regard, Louie mother said, "It wasn't a good day yesterday. This is just something more to worry about, and on top of that Deon is in quite a lot of pain. He did manage to get to see Louie today, though”.
