‘Interphone’ Denies Link between Cellphone Use and Brain tumor

Cell PhoneA large scale study carried out by a team of experts from the International Agency for Research on Cancer has denied any link between the use of cellphones and increased risk of developing brain tumor. The study known as “Interphone” was published in the International Journal of Epidemiology and is considered as the largest study on cellphone use and brain cancer risk.

Many previous researchers have claimed that prolonged use of cell could give rise to brain tumor because of the emission of harmful radiations from these phones.

The results of “Interphone” were based on the study carried out on 2,708 malignant brain tumor patients from 13 countries. The findings of the study revealed that the use of Cellphone did not increase the risk of brain tumor, even for individuals who had used a cellphone for more than 10 years.

The study has revealed that overall rate of brain cancer has fallen in the previous years despite the growing cellphone use. According to the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Result database maintained by the National Cancer Institute, the frequency of new diagnoses of brain tumors in the U. S. fell by 0.3% between 1987 and 2008.
