A shocking case of a senior consultant of consuming two bottles of cider and half a bottle of vodka during working hours, has become a talking point in the medical fraternity. The accused radiologist, Dr. Andrew Taylor, is reported to be put through disciplinary inquiry, under the General Medical Council (GMC) in Manchester, of adopting such objectionable conduct in front of patients.
Confirming the five-day hearing of the 56-year-old consultant of Hull Road, Cottingham, GMC Spokesman claimed, “The panel will inquire into the allegation that on November 12, 2006, whilst employed as a Consultant Radiologist by the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Dr Taylor accepted a police caution for the offence of common assault”.
This is not the first time that the doctor had been facing action, as he had punched his wife thrice in drunken state in August, 2009. Popularly known by his middle name Damian, the accused doctor had slapped his wife so hard that she had to go through urgent medical treatment.
Even though he managed to save himself from the clutches of prosecution, as his wife could not produce substantial evidence supporting her allegation, at his trial at Beverley Magistrates Court.
Meanwhile, if the panel of experts felt that the accused is not fit enough to continue his medical practices, GMC might go for suspension or cancellation of registration.
