Race for Life Raises Funds for Cancer Research UK

Race for Life Raises Funds for Cancer Research UKRace for Life, the biggest women-only charity fundraising event, had thousands of moms, daughters, and sisters wearing pink and walking, jogging, and running all across the United Kingdom, over the weekend.

The annual event, which consists of a 5 kilometer course, raises money for Cancer Research UK in order to help beat cancer.

According to Claire Wase, "I have been really pleased with the support this year. We have had a lot of people coming along to watch and cheer the participants on, which was great to see”.

Three events were hosted on the grounds of Ormesby Hall. Over 1,500 women took part in the first event on Friday, followed by an additional 1,633 participants on Saturday. On Sunday, despite rain and poor conditions, 1,299 came out to walk, jog, or run their way to the finish line.

“It rained throughout the race on Sunday. But it failed to dampen everyone’s spirits and people were smiling as they took part”, added Wase.

Maira Mastrolonardo, along with her daughters Maddalena, 10, and Isabel, 13, were among the participants out on Saturday. Both girls wanted to run for their grandmother who was a victim of cancer.

According to Maria, “The girls asked if they could take part with me and I am so proud of them”.
