Staffs in East Yorkshire Hospitals Deal with 32 Admissions Related to Alcohol Every DayStaffs in hospitals in East Yorkshire were report to attend to an average of 32 patients who have alcohol related illness and injury, each day. The Health Minister has stated that figures have raised major concerns as it is said to be a recent one from the NHS Information Center.

The Chief Executive at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Phil Morley, expressed that as people are drinking more, there will be more people coming to hospital with alcohol related injuries, illnesses and diseases.

He also stated, “Clearly, this is an increased pressure on our services, in the same way that admissions due to smoking-related diseases put pressure on hospitals”.

However, the Hull is said to have around 44,000 residents who drink above the recommended alcohol intake a week, as well as 8,000 of them who rely solely on alcohol.

In the East Riding, there are 62,000 people drinking above the recommended level and 9,500 are said to depend on alcohol. The dire situation is said to have escalated in Hull and East Riding, when compared nationally, as the amount of alcohol related hospitals is above 1 million.

Despite the fact that an investment is being made in getting more alcohol detox beds and community-based detox programmes, coupled with hospital-based alcohol workers to ensure quality service, Morley has advised the local population to consume alcohol in moderation, to reduce the risk getting of serious diseases.
