Diabetes Care at Royal Derby Hospital Falls below National Average

Derby-HospitalA recent patient survey has claimed that diabetes care at the Royal Derby Hospital has fallen below the national average. The survey has found that patients who stayed overnight at the hospital received an average of 11 minutes of care from specialist diabetes nurses as compared to the national average of 26 minutes.

The survey has also found that the most of the medication errors were reported from Derby only. The survey has also claimed that 40% of the 59 patients evaluated by the survey had experienced a medication error as compared to the national average of 37%.

Diabetes UK Chief Executive, Barbara Young, said that the survey has shown that the problems of the diabetes patients have increased in the past few years. They have to wait for long hours and less specialist support is made available to them. The situation is required to be dealt with before it becomes even worse. These problems could result in poor patient outcomes.

Meanwhile, Diabetes UK also said that the number of diabetes specialist nurse posts that have not been filled has doubled in a year.
