CHMP Approve New Drugs

CHMP Approve New DrugsReports have suggested that European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use has been approved. So this is good news for companies like GlaxoSmithKline, Merck & Co, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Amgen, as well as Astellas and Biogen Idec.

It was reported that CHMP has approved GSK and Human Genome Sciences’ lupus drug Benlysta. This drug was however available in USA. It was the first to have been approved in 50 years. The market analysts believe that this drug will become very popular as soon as it is launched in the market.

The market analysts are expecting similar response for Yervoy from Bristol – Myers Squibb. This drug has got approval in the treatment of advanced melanoma in adults. This drug was approved by FDA in March.

The European regulatory is also following the same steps as USA by approving chronic hepatitis-C genotype- 1 infection.

“Despite the rising incidence of melanoma across Europe, no new treatment options have been approved in more than a decade. Receiving a positive opinion for Yervoy from the CHMP represents an important milestone for scientific advance in this disease area”, said Ron Cooper, President, Bristol-Myers Squibb Europe.

These drugs will become very popular and the companies would get heavy profit once these drugs are commercially available in the market.
