As per the latest reports from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Pakistan's fast bowler Mohammad Asif, who was the favorite child of controversy lately, will be sent to South Africa for the ICC Champions Trophy via London and not Dubai, in order to avoid any further problems.
PCB sees a possibility of some unwanted problems, if the disgraced bowler will travel via Dubai; and so Asif will travel via London, while rest of the team will go to South Africa via Dubai.
The problems for Asif commenced last year, when he was detained at Dubai International airport for 19 days for possessing a banned substance.
PCB's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Wasim Bari informed, "Right now we are focusing on the Champions Trophy so we are sending him via London to avoid any untoward situation."
Bari informed further that the concerned authorities have been asked by the board to define the status of Asif's case, since Pakistan has to play New Zealand in an ODI series in the Arab nation. The matches will be held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Bari said further, "We have a series in Abu Dhabi and Dubai against New Zealand coming up, so we need to be sure beforehand whether he (Asif) can travel to Dubai again."
On the other hand, when Asif was asked about his flying agenda, he said he does not know about it, and is only focusing on the Champions Trophy.
Asif explained, "I don't even know when I will fly for Johannesburg. But I will leave it up to the board to handle the case and will do whatever they want me to do. For me, the Dubai detention chapter is closed once I returned home."
