It has been found out by Australian scientists that for treating major depression, an antidepressant that modifies sleep-wake cycles has proved very effective as patients have experienced a significant improvement in sleep quality.
Medication is often given up by depression patients because they feel that due to such medications, sexual dysfunction and weight gain happen.
A study was conducted by two scientists from OZ and it was found that the sleep patterns of people improved by using a synthetic compound called agomelatine and certain side effects that were caused by other drugs were also avoided.
The situation is often worsened with depression medication, according to Naomi Rogers, one of the researchers behind the study.
She said, “A lot of people don't want to go on medications that cause the sexual function with the weight gain, or they have that happen and decide to stop taking the medication. Previously people have often focused just on the mood disruption that's associated with depression.”
The drug having lesser or no side effects was also stated by Rogers, from the Central Queensland University, when talking about agomelatine.
