Walk Safely To School Day on May 20

Walk SafelyOn May 20 there will be the National Walk Safely to School Day and support for this event has come fully from students of CHRIST the King Catholic Primary School.

More than a 100 schools are going to be a part of this event and the Deception Bay School is one of them. The vent has entered its 12th year and this aims at spreading awareness among students about obesity by making parents and children walk to school and back every day.

Parents will also be told to walk and drive less to stay fit and this will also avoid traffic congestion around schools and cutting down on carbon emissions from vehicles.

A healthy lifestyle is a must to live healthy and this event promotes exactly this, according to school spokesman Duncan Maitland.

He said, "It's also a good community event, a lot of parents get involved ... families walk to school together.''

Teachers will be dropped at various locations through out Deception Bay and they will be walking along with children who want to be a part of this event, Maitland informed.

Queensland Walk Safely to School Day coordinator Tracey Baillie said that obesity is less likely to strike kids who spend about 60 minutes every day working out and this will also help them keep away problems related to health that they might experience later in life.
