According to a new study, the risk of going through a cesarean section just because a baby weighs more can be avoided by women who are very obese after shedding some weight during pregnancy.
Earlier studies have stated evidence that without harming unborn babies, severely obese women can shed some weight during pregnancy and that too safely.
But this also follows a warning that women must consult their doctors before going on any kind of weight-loss diet as losing weight without taking safe steps can be dangerous during pregnancy.
The total weight gain during pregnancy should not be more than 11 to 20 pounds, according to the general recommendations from the Institute of Medicine, IOM, an advisory panel to the U. S. government.
But when it comes to women who have normal weight, the total weight gain can be 25 to 35 pounds. Different levels of obesity are not taken into consideration and due to this the IOM guidelines have been criticized by some researchers.
It has been stated by some studies that it is possible for some very obese women to gain less weight while they are pregnant and sometimes even shed pounds and that too safely and that too without causing any harm to unborn babies.
