New Study Highlights the Good Side of Bad Cholesterol

CholesterolA recent study has claimed that low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly known as 'bad cholesterol' has some positive aspects as well. The researchers said that high levels LDL act as warning sign and may help in the detection of heart problems.

The study was carried out by the researchers from the Texas A&M University and was published in the Journal of Gerontology.

The LDL is known as bad cholesterol because it builds of in the walls of arteries which lead to heart disease and heart attacks. The study highlights the importance of LDL in building up of muscles.

The researchers evaluated 52 adults from ages to 60 to 69 for the study who were in health do not perform any physical activity. The participants performed vigorous workout during the study period.

Steve Riechman from the Texas A and M University said that the results of the study have revealed that participants who had highest levels of LDL cholesterol had gained the most muscle mass.

The study emphasizes the need of a certain amount of LDL to gain more muscle mass. The researchers said that both LDL and the HDL are required for good health because completely eliminating the bad cholesterol from the body may cause serious problems.
