Colorectal Cancer, Second Leading Cause of Death Related to Cancer in Colorado

Colorectal-CancerColorectal cancer has reported to be the second leading cause of deaths related to cancer. According to reports, an estimate of 6 deaths out of 10 could be avoided if proper screenings are being done.

Owing to this, the need for a statewide conversation is necessary to create awareness for the importance of regular colorectal cancer screening, as it will save lives just like the breast cancer awareness raised for regular mammograms.

To facilitate the awareness, thousands of people with pink ribbons marched on the streets to raise awareness along with money, for breast cancer research, screening and treatment with Mammograms becoming a regular part for majority of women’s health care checkup.

Screening is relatively painless, can be used to prevent colorectal cancer and is covered by most health insurance plans in the city, Men and women, who are 50 years or older, stand great chances of getting the cancer.

Though the colorectal cancer is being investigated, it’s said to be a “silent killer” which majority of older Coloradans and their health care providers do not give enough attention, in terms of its screening.

Moreover, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, has called on Coloradans who are 50 years or older to consult their doctors and commence frequent screening for colorectal cancer.
