Smoking Indoors Must be Banned

SmokingUndoubtedly, many have been abused by Luther Francis’s letter in May 3 paper "It’s unwise to ban smoking in bars, restaurants". But he must also see the point of banning smoking (in public) and should not only concern about only his business.

There are many destinations worldwide where no laws have been implemented on smoking be it outdoor or indoor and thus people lit up their cigarettes anywhere they want to without even considering who is in front or behind, which seems to be really rude and inconsiderate.

France has become the next country in the list, who has implemented “No Smoking” laws. There are serious health risks that are associated with smoking, and thus nonsmokers should also been given a choice, especially when they are in enclosed public places, even bars and restaurants.

Recently, a new research has shown that second hand smoke has some severe affects on the brain, which can induce cravings for nicotine in ex-smokers. This has been proved by a scan, namely positron emission tomography, which has been initiated by scientists from the US National Institute on Drug Abuse, to show that just an hour of exposure to second hand smoke in an enclosed area allows nicotine to reach the brain.

NHS in the UK also revealed that total 4,000 toxic chemicals are present in second hand smoke, which can lead to the occurrence of same diseases as in smokers, including cancer and heart disease.
