Revised Treatment for Treating Type 2 Diabetic Patients: FDA

DiabeticOne such disease that almost affects 90 to 95% out of 24 million populations in the United States is Type 2 diabetes. It is in fact known as one of the most common diseases that affect major population with diabetes.

For Type 2 diabetic patients, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have approved Tradjenta (linagliptin) tablets that can be used along with diet and exercise. These tablets will help improve their blood glucose controls.

Tradjenta tablets in particular are marketed by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc., Ridgefield, Conn., and Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly Co.

By consuming Tradjenta, the level of hormones that help stimulating the release of insulin after consuming a meal can be increased. This way it blocks the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 or DPP-4, and further serves towards betterment of blood glucose control.

In this regard, Mary Parks, Director of the Division of Metabolism and Endocrinology Products in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said "This approval provides another treatment option for the millions of Americans with Type 2 diabetes. It is effective when used alone or when added to existing treatment regimens”.
