It has been reported over the past few years that women diagnosed with breast cancers were below the age of 50 years. Many physicians across the world are requesting the females from the age of 40 to 49 to get the mammograms at least once a year. This process will help in early detection of breast cancer and can be lifesaver.
It has been reported by the American Cancer Society that breast cancer deaths have come down by 30% if they are treated early. Thus women who get screened regularly every year have higher chances of survival.
It is also known that there are no perfect tests in medicine, screening mammography and chances of early breast cancer detection.
The American cancer society recommends all the females to get the mammograms once a year for the age group of 40 to 49. The society also requests for clinical exams of breasts by physician for women in 20s and 30s years of age.
Breast self-exams can be done by the individuals from the age of 20 onwards.
The digital mammograms are used for checking the breast tissues very minutely and also check for microcalcifications. It also checks for any inflammation or any ageing of breast arteries.
