A recent study revealed that children suffering from autistic problems have slightly bigger brains than their counterparts who are not a part of this.
This result has been published in the May edition of Archives of General Psychiatry, which noted that the brain size appears to be bigger than those of healthy kids.
The medical researchers from the University of North Carolina claimed that the growth does not increase in spite of the size.
In the year 2005, the researchers found that the brains of autistic children are 10% larger than the healthy children.
Now, the scientists have assessed the brains up to the age of 5 years. They have scanned the brains of 38 children with autism and 21 without this disease. The autistic children are found with larger brains but the growth rate was found to be same for all the brains.
According to study researcher Joseph Piven, MD, these findings could lead to a better scientific research of the genes involved in autism and also the early diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
However, there is no medical test available till date to identify autism. This disorder can be understood from the age of 3 as the children show behavioural problems.
