A report suggested that the food borne illness has become a major issue in United States. Poultry contamination which was caused by Campylobacter bacteria in the food pathogen caused illness to 600,000 people a year and costs $1.3 billion.
This report has been issued by the University of Florida Emerging Pathogens Institute. This institute identifies the 10 riskiest combinations of foods and diseases causing organisms in the U. S.
"The number of hazards and scale of the food system make for a critical challenge for consumers and government alike", Michael Batz, head of food safety programs at the institute and lead author of the report, said in a university news release.
He suggests that the government agencies must work very efficiently to remove this trouble as this is the greatest burden on the country. The people of the country are at risk and there should be efficient way to check the food products before being sold off to public.
The institute also provides the top 5 illness-causing pathogens -- Campylobacter, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Toxoplasma gondii and norovirus. These organisms cause $12.7 billion economic losses every year and the top 10 pathogen food-contamination it reaches to another $8 billion.
