‘Pounds for pounds’ was a study that conducted in which people were paid for losing weight and it was seen that out of about 400 people who took part in the initiative, more than half lost body weight.
People were given about £180 for losing about 8.8lb in one year and most of these people were NHS workers.
According to researchers, this scheme was seen to be working very well and it could help many people lose weight across the country.
Dr Clare Relton, of the University of Sheffield, said, “The successful recruitment to this programme suggests that a financial incentives weight-loss programme may be acceptable to the general public and to NHS employees, and to both men and women.”
Dr David Haslam, chairman of the National Obesity Forum, stated that he was not sure about such a scheme working on ground.
He said that in a year losing four kg of weight was a good sign for a healthier nation.
This also means that if people were paid to leave smoking, alcohol addiction and drugs, then it could show positive results.
