Lack of Vitamin D in Blacks, Reason Behind Racial Differences is Their Blood Pressure

Vitamin-DRecently, Scientists from the University of Rochester conducted a research for analyzing the racial discrimination among blacks and whites blood pressure; and they revealed out that there is a big variation in levels of Vitamin D in both the groups.

Yes, during the research it has been found that most of the times, blacks have low vitamin D levels and this is the reason why they suffer from hypertension.

For conducting this study, data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2001-2006 was evaluated by the experts of this recent research. The data included information of about nearly 2,000 blacks and 5,100 non
-Hispanic whites; all of them were aged 20 or above. By comparing the blood levels of vitamin D and average systolic pressure among the participants, scientists came to know that huge ratio of black population lacks vitamin D.

In this regard, lead author Kevin Fiscella, M. D., Professor of Family Medicine at URMC also highlighted “Our study confirms that vitamin D represents one piece of the complex puzzle of race and blood pressure. And, since black
-white differences in blood pressure represent thousands of excess deaths due to heart disease and stroke among blacks, we believe that simple interventions such as taking vitamin D supplements might have a positive impact on racial disparities”.
