A new study has stated that when it comes to older people, calcium supplements with or without vitamin D influences the risk of having a heart attack and other cardiovascular events.
For keeping bone health in place, calcium supplements are recommended to older postmenopausal women. Vitamin D is present in some supplements and some do not have it.
A study was conducted that spanned across seven years in which over 36,000 women were assessed by the Woman’s Health Initiative, WHI. The study was conducted for figuring out the effects of calcium along with vitamin D in cardiovascular problems.
Women who were a part of the study were taking calcium supplements from before and this led to results becoming hidden.
The WHI study results were assessed all over again by Professor Ian Reid from the University of Auckland along with his team of researchers for establishing the evidence of calcium supplements that contains vitamin D and some that do not have this vitamin.
There were about 16,718 women in the study, and these women were not taking calcium from before. It was found that women who were taking calcium supplements along with vitamin D were more at risk of experiencing cardiovascular problems.
