Late abortions details should be kept secret and this is what the Government has launched through a High Court battle.
A judge was informed that unpleasant consequences can be experienced by a patient if their identities were revealed.
In October 2009, a decision was made by the Information Tribunal that details of all patients must be revealed and this is being challenged by the Department of Health, DoH.
Abortion is something that ProLife Alliance, PLA, opposes and a request about the same had come from the PLA.
PLA’s concern is that ‘less than perfect’ babies are being weeded out following the abortion rules and it is majorly due to a cleft palate or club foot and doctors have stated that such conditions can easily be treated with a surgery.
The PLA stated that there will be more transparency following the tribunal ruling.
Flawed reasoning was the term given by James Eadie QC, who appeared for the DoH, and he stated that the tribunal's decision should be overturned.
He said, “There was sufficient information in the public domain, without full disclosure, to allow a full public debate on abortion issues and to allow legal challenges to be brought.”
