In a recent study, it was found that depression may lead to depletion in the density of one’s bones. It was found that when a person is undergoing depression, many may tend to avoid their food and wellness and lifestyle habits. This might lead to a slow deterioration in the condition of the person.
The research was conducted by scientists from the Norwegian University and they were of the revelation that the bone density of the depressed has decreased over time.
The person who is depressed might let go of him/her self and indulge in excessive drinking, smoking or drugs. This might further lead to deterioration in the quality of health of the person. The use of medicines, caffeine consumption and other medical conditions of the person could be a reason for the depletion in the density of the bones of the depressed.
"There are several known risk factors for low bone mineral density, such as advanced age, gender (women are at greater risk than men), familial predisposition, low levels of sex hormones, inadequate calcium intake and vitamin D deficiency”, said Dr Williams Deakin University.
