Blood donation is something that people is being urged to volunteer for this Easter by Mackay people. The reason for this is blood donations used to treat cancer patients only have a shelf life of five days.
In the lead-up to the festival, more appointments are what the Mackay Blood Donor Centre is looking forward to for ensuring adequate blood supplies for the festive period. This month the total collection of blood units were about
250 and the needed units are 611.
Donating blood to save people’s lives is what Palmina Bonaventura of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service is urging everyone to come ahead for.
She said, “One way of giving the gift of life this Easter is to visit the Mackay Blood Donor Centre at the Base Hospital and give blood. One in three of us will need blood in our lifetime, yet only one in 30 people donate.”
It was also informed to people that something known as blood platelets was made of blood and it was really important to save a person who is suffering from cancer.
