It has been found by a new British study that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes can be reduced by about 50 per cent by weight-loss surgery such as gastric banding and apart from this; the surgery also helps in keeping obesity away.
Bariatric surgery is suppose to comprise gastric bypasses and gastric bands and the conclusion has been made by the first large-scale study on the impact of bariatric surgery. Things like being disable, death in premature age and diseases are prevented by this.
It was stated that there was a 50 per cent reduction in type 2 diabetes among people who were obese when these people had a surgery about a year back and 60 per cent of excess body weight was also shed off by them post surgery.
A Department of Health spokesman said, “Surgery should be a last resort.” And making lifestyle changes in diet and physical activity is what the chairman of the charity Diabetes UK, Professor Sir George Alberti, suggested for losing weight. Obesity is a rising problem and steps to curb it to stay healthy should be taken.
