You might think that consuming small amounts of alcohol might be just ok during pregnancy but no, it is not, according to a research.
A new study from Ireland states that unborn baby can be harmed with even small amounts of alcohol when you are pregnant. Development of unborn babies can be easily affected by just two glasses of wine a week, researchers have found.
From 2000 to 2007, about 60,000 women from Dublin were assessed for their alcohol consumptions and they all were mums-to-be. Fetal alcohol syndrome can be easily caused by five units of alcohol every week or two glasses of wine, researchers found. There can be various abnormalities among unborn babies like physical and mental and even the growth can be stunted.
A more thorough research was what Professor Deidre Murphy, who led the research, called for so that the exact effects of alcohol can be seen in the future.
She said, “This study emphasizes the need for improved detection of alcohol misuse in pregnancy and for early intervention in order to minimize the risks to the developing fetus.”
