It has been claimed by a study that children are these days being forced to grow up too soon, according to a majority of parents.
A report by the Department of Education stated that the reasons for children to act older than they are due to music videos, adult styled clothes and celebrity culture.
There was a survey carried out by the independent Bailey Review of Commercialisation and Sexualisation of Childhood and it stated that the feeling that children were being forced to grow up too soon was being felt by about 88 per cent of people.
Parents displayed displeasure about the kind of content shown on the TV in adverts and other series before the 9pm watershed.
The aim of the survey was to figure out the thoughts of parents about this and what kind of help is needed by them to balance out this kind of pressure felt by kids.
Purchasing of things that were not needed at all were also being bought by parents because they did not want their kids to feel left out.
Reg Bailey, chief executive of the Mothers' Union, is leading an independent review into the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood said, “Parents are telling us in no uncertain terms that they are worried about the pressures on children to grow up too quickly.”
