At the third World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships to be held in Abu Dhabi, around three hundred Jiu-Jitsu fighters will hone their skills to get hold of the $1m (Dhs3.6m) prize money.
The event has His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces as its chief patron. The championship will be held over two weekends April 8-9, and April 14-16, and will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center.
AD sport will show live telecast of the five alternate championship games with a dedicated studio well equipped with expert fight analysis throughout event followed by a live telecast of junior Jiu-Jitsu championship to be held in the second weekend.
The trial for the championship was held across 16 cities from all over the world within a period of over nine months in both Gi and No-Gi classes.
By hosting this championship for five consecutive years, Abu Dhabi is determined and capable of claiming the title of world capital for Jiu-Jitsu in terms of training and development. There will be eight categories where fighters will fight for the cash pot.
One of the most well regarded fighters in the UAE; Faisal Al Ketbi will participate in the 92kgs weight category in both the Gi and No-Gi categories as well as in the open weight category.
