Ecstasy Can Cause Structural Brain Damage

Ecstasy Can Cause Structural Brain DamageThe people around the world regularly use the popular recreational drug ecstasy (MDMA). The authorities have been concerned about the health hazard caused by the by the recreational drug ecstasy (MDMA).

The main problem is that people are not familiar with the damage this drug can cause. It has been confirmed in a new study that if a person uses the recreational drug ecstasy (MDMA) for a long period he/she can suffer from structural brain damage.

In many previous researches, it has been seen that the use of ecstasy can cause significant memory problems. Looking at the previous studies the Dutch researchers started the new study to confirm structural changes in the brain.

The Dutch researchers did MRI scans on ten young men who have been using ecstasy for a long time. They measured the volume of the hippocampus in them. Then the researchers performed MRI scans on seven young men who have never used ecstasy. Hippocampus is the area in the brain responsible for the long term memory. These young men had consumed around 281 ecstasy tablets over the preceding six and a half years. They were asked to stop using the drug two months before the test.

After analyzing the results, the scientist confirmed that long term use of the recreational drug ecstasy (MDMA) can cause structural brain damage.
