After a surgeon was accused to botching several women, a hospital trust in Yorkshire has paid out a total of almost £1.2m in compensation to those women. These women have stated that they have been left scarred for their entire lives.
Specialist Puvaneswary Markandoo is the surgeon who has been accused and it was seen after figures were revealed that about 26 women were paid a total of £1,189,054 by Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Reports state that it is still unclear how much is the full legal cost of the compensation and once it is revealed, it is being thought that the total bill will be much more.
A spokesman for Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said, “The claimants’ legal costs are currently estimated at £480,000 but we are still waiting for final figures on both the claimants’ and the NHS’ legal costs.”
Following complaints from about 35 women, Markandoo was suspended and when she was working, she was earning up to £122,000 a year as a consultant.
Breast cancer was what most of these women were suffering and reconstructive surgery was what these patients were undergoing at the moment.
