Doctors not given adequate training

Doctors not given adequate trainingAccording to a professional body, a generation of inadequately-trained doctors might take place in Scotland and if it is to be avoided then action has to be taken by the incoming Scottish Government.

There are problems in medical training according to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, RCPE, and when evidence about this was given, the government reported to have given a limited response and this can put patient safety at stake.

There are trainee consultants who are plugging gaps in hospitals as per RCPE officials and satisfaction about being completely trained by the end of the process was reflected only by about 42 per cent people.

Trainees’ supervision is not done properly as consultants are reported to have not enough time and according to the RCPE, doctors being trained in some hospitals are also not sufficient.

Dr Neil Dewhurst, president of the college, said, “We have now reached a tipping point, where this evidence can no longer be ignored or considered in isolation. Instead, it is imperative that policymakers look at the totality of this evidence and recognize the fundamental problems which exist.”
