It has however been added that various problems like stroke, womb cancer and blood clots can take place with tamoxifen.

Every year, breast cancer affects about 46,000 women in the UK alone. In the US, for preventing breast cancer, two drugs have got approval and these are tamoxifen and raloxifene.

Professor Jack Cuzick, who chaired the panel and is an epidemiologist at Queen Mary, University of London, said, “The two drugs should be approved in the UK. The evidence for them is overwhelming.”

It was stated that preventative therapy could be given to women who had the chances of developing breast cancer by 4 per cent in the next 10 years.

The need of treatment can be known in heart disease by various signs like blood pressure and cholesterol and experts will be on a lookout for such signs that can inform about breast cancer to get the therapy.
