Prostate cancer survival rate better if diagnosed early

Prostate cancerProstate cancer is something that affects a lot of men and there are people almost in every family who have to cope up with the disease. Prostate cancer is a frequently occurring cancer and is second to skin and lung cancer as the most common cancers for men. The symptoms are not felt at the initial stages and in their lifetime it will strike one out of six men.

The only hope for men is that not many men will die from the disease. Prostate cancer was found in about 218,000 men in 2010 and the total number of deaths was about 32,000.

In five years the survival rate will be 100 per cent if the disease is diagnosed early as treatment is then possible. Also this cancer spreads very slowly and gives enough time to a patient to find it out.

Age is a major factor in prostate cancer as 68 is the median age for diagnosis and the percentage of men who have this disease over the age of 80 years is two-thirds.

If anyone in your family has the disease then there are chances that you have a possibility to develop it.

Diet is a major part of keeping the disease away and broccoli should be preferred over steak as age rises.
