Uncertainty over radiotherapy unit

Uncertainty over radiotherapy unitA lot of uncertainty has surrounded the radiotherapy unit at Altnagelvin Hospital as political point-scoring surrounds it and makes it so.

Irish health minister has sent a letter to the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety or DHSSPS and the letter is all about his involvement in the project.

The funding to keep the project going was stated to be short by Michael McGimpsey, the health minister who is outgoing and just hours after he said this, the letter had arrived.

There is Assembly elections scheduled in May and Irish minister for health Dr James Reilly stated that there are chances of the project taking shape again after the elections.

There will be a reversal on the development on the planned unit that has been halted, according to Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness and the DUP's Jim Wells.

Branding McGimpsey's decision as sectarian, McGuinness said:, "I would urge people not to panic. If you can be sure about anything in life, you can be sure that this radiotherapy centre will be built. I will ensure and guarantee that it is built."
