The Dubai police had huge success against illegal arm shipments on Friday. According to Emirates news agency a huge shipment with 16000 pistols of different specifications were caught by Dubai police, which were en route from Turkey to Yemen.
Smugglers including six Arabs residing in Emirates were arrested in connection to the failed heist.
According to UAE Police Chief Dahi Khalfan, the arm shipment was on its way to Yemen through an Egyptian port. The smugglers were forced to change their route plans of going to Yemen through another gulf country sea port and a stopover to Dubai was the last minute addition.
According to The General Department of State Security the arms were apprehended from a shipment container foiling reshipping attempts to its ultimate destination.
The arms were hidden in a furniture container carefully wrapped in boxes. Along with the fake branded pistol, additional bullet chambers were also confiscated. The container was temporarily kept in a Dubai warehouse. Following a tip off, the Dubai Police immediately got into action and thwarted the arm shipment and arrested most of the involved suspects.
