Health experts have given support to having a tougher stance when it comes to advertising about alcohol and wants that the government too should feel the same.
In an attempt to limit children being exposed to alcohol marketing, a private member’s bill will be put forward by Dr Sarah Wollaston.
The bill follows a French legislation and will be put forward soon. And the bill will do a lot in saving children from getting exposed to alcohol, according to the British Medical Association and university experts.
The bill will be put forward as a 10-minute rule bill by Dr Wollaston, who is a GP.
Dr Wollaston will be making a speech in the Parliament and it is not known that this step will actually mean the legislation being passed but experts feel that a lot of awareness will be raised with this.
It was in 1991 that the French legislation was introduced and under this promoting alcohol using various means like print and broadcast media etc is completely banned.
Professor Gerard Hastings, a social marketing expert at Stirling University, said, “Removing this profoundly unhealthy influence is, unsurprisingly, recognized as a key public health priority. So along with their cafe culture, the Loi Evin is a French innovation that the UK needs.”
