Diabetes can be predicted 10 yrs before onset

Diabetes can be predicted 10 yrs before onsetDiabetes can be predicted about 10 years ago from the time the disease actually starts affecting a body, researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital, MGH, have suggested. This can be done by blood's small molecules level measurement.

It was added that factors that could trigger diabetes like obesity etc can also be known apart from the levels of five amino acids that can be used to predict an increased diabetes risk.

Lead author Thomas Wang said, "These findings raise the possibility that, in selected individuals, these measurements could identify those at highest risk of developing diabetes so that early preventive measures could be instituted."

Amino acids that can state the development of type 2 diabetes later in life are isoleucine, leucine, valine, tyrosine and phenylalanine.

According to Dr Victoria King, head of research at Diabetes UK, there are various risks that can be reduced like kidney failure, amputation, stroke and heart problems if diabetes is diagnosed early diagnosis and this will also lead to managing the disease well.

It was added that to avoid such complications, it was necessary to preduct diabetes early in life.
