A blood test has been made that can make a person know whether he is at a risk of developing diabetes about 10 years before he actually develops it.
The onset of type 2 diabetes can be predicted by measuring levels of five markers in the blood.
Enough time can be given to a person to make appropriate changes in lifestyle and diet following the tests that can act as an early warning for people who face the risk.
Dr Thomas Wang, who developed the test, said, “These findings could provide insight into metabolic pathways that are altered very early in the process leading to diabetes.”
These tests also raise the likelihood of people who are more at risk of getting to know that they can develop the disease and enough measures to avoid the disease can be taken by these people.
Insulin is produced by the pancreas and when enough amount of this insulin stops getting formed, diabetes occurs, blood sugar is controlled with insulin and when insulin does not work properly, levels of blood sugar go high.
Dr Wang and colleagues from the Massachusetts General Hospital had formed these conclusions after doing a test on 189 diabetics.
