A senior police officer has stated that the number of crimes was about 665 in Dubai last year. These crimes were done by housemaids.  It involved 68 robberies and 113 illegal relationships.

Lt Colonel Jamal Al Jallaf, deputy director of Dubai’s General Department of Investigation has informed that out of all the crimes, less than 5o percent were involved escaping from sponsors and working for other families. This led to the chance of providing jobs for domestic workers on full or part time basis.

He has said that many of the maids were from poor background and were illiterate as well. They were not capable of doing any other job. Thus there were exposed to commit crimes like doing burglary and breaching of trust.

Moreover, he has advised to all the families to keep their valuable items in safe places. This is because by seeing the money or precious things there are induced to do crime. He has urged to the families not to allow their servants to live in separate rooms or close to other maids.
