Hassan Sharif is the one and only Emirati who has shown his work in the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha. Earlier, he was selected as the debut artist to represent the UAE during its first national pavilion the Venice Biennale in 2009. However, Hassan has yet not done a single sole performance in the capital.
Now again he has got another opportunity to perform in the city. The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach) is bringing Hassan Sharif in the ‘Experiments and Objects 1979-2011’. It is a seminal exhibition which comprises a set of more than 150 sculptures and installations spanning the artist's career.
Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, the adviser for culture and heritage in the Court of the Crown Prince and the director general of Adach has said that the Sharif show is done in a momentary space next to the Cultural Foundation and part of Art Dubai but for the UAE's art scene it is critical.
He has also added that there is a need of a local and resident population who not only participates in the program but also contributes to the arts.
