The advisory panel of the Food and Drug Administration claimed in a statement that the use of menthol cigarettes among minorities is rising day by day. This was claimed in a statement released on Monday.

The Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee is in favour of banning Menthol flavour from cigarettes. However, the report is due next week.

Statistical record shows that Menthol cigarettes constitute only 30% of the total cigarettes available in the US. This whole issue is very important for Lorillard Inc. because it is the largest producer of menthol flavour cigarettes.

Around 90% of the company sales are accounted for menthol cigarettes. Group Inc. and Reynolds American Inc. also market menthol cigarettes but they have less market share.

Tobacco industry claimed that there is no issue that people smokes a lot due to menthol flavour. It also claimed that the health risks are similar to that of regular cigarettes.

Another chapter quoted that there is insufficient evidence to conclude that people smoking menthol cigarettes have different risks of tobacco related diseases.

The statistics confirm that around 80% of African-American adolescent smokes menthol cigarettes. The data also showed that teenage smoking also reduced in the last few years.
